Stop Building Frameworks, Build Debuggers

Every week there is a new agent framework. LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, the list grows endlessly. But when an agent does something wrong, the debugging experience is still "read the logs and guess."

The Missing Tool

What agent developers actually need is a replay viewer. Something that shows, side by side:

  • Screenshots of what the agent saw at each step
  • The reasoning the agent produced before acting
  • The action it chose and the result
  • The state changes in memory, files, and external systems

This does not exist as a standard tool. Every team builds their own logging, their own visualization, their own way to understand what went wrong. This is a massive duplication of effort.

Why Frameworks Are Not the Bottleneck

Building an agent is not hard. Making it reliable is. And reliability comes from being able to diagnose failures quickly. A framework that makes it easy to build an agent but impossible to debug it is not saving time - it is front-loading the easy work and deferring the hard work.

The ratio should be inverted. Spend less time on orchestration abstractions and more time on tools that let you watch an agent think.

What Good Debugging Looks Like

The best agent debugging experience would be:

  • Step-by-step replay - scrub through the agent's session like a video
  • Branching what-ifs - replay from a specific point with different inputs
  • Anomaly highlighting - automatically flag where the agent's behavior diverged from expectations
  • Shareable traces - send a replay to a colleague with full context

Build this, and you will do more for agent reliability than any new framework ever could.
